Common Rooms is a place for arts, music and events. We want it all: independent arts, cabaret, comedy, spoken word and music gigs, film screenings, workshops and masterclasses, book launches, talks, rehearsals and more.
(If you’re looking to put on a week-long performance season of your theatre or dance show, you’re best to come to us during the Melbourne Fringe Festival in October, which has its own separate Expression of Interest process opening in April each year. For anything else you think the world needs to hear, hit us up now).
There are two spaces available at Common Rooms – the Old Ballroom (standing capacity 170, seated is 80-110) and the Annexe (standing capacity 70, seated is 30) – which can be booked separately or together.
The venue is wheelchair accessible (including lift access to the stage) and has a hearing loop, and in keeping with our Trades Hall home, Common Rooms is a place where everyone is welcome (except the bigots and the nasty capitalists, TBH).
We support artists at all stages of their careers to develop and present their work. We encourage work by First Nations artists, artists who are Deaf or with disability and other voices from the margins. We want to see as much female-led and gender non-binary-led work as possible.
Common Rooms is open seven days for public events in any artform. We love one-off gigs, and we don’t program week-long seasons of work outside of Festival time. We have a top sound system, projector, screen, beautiful bar and more fancy moving lights than you can poke a stick at.
